Reader Caryl opened the morning with “Happy post-election day to all who celebrate!!!” Reader Marisa quickly proposed: “Maybe we can have an afternoon post to celebrate?” The answer is a resounding yes.

How are you feeling today? Following last night’s decisive Democratic sweep, the party has secured control of both the House and Senate. Democrats also flipped governorships in Texas, Georgia, Nevada, Ohio, and Iowa, and gained seven Senate seats across Texas, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Maine, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Adam Hamilton’s victory is particularly historic, marking the first time Kansas has elected a Democratic senator in nearly 100 years.

Above, clockwise: Chris Pappas, Abdul El-Sayed, Keisha Lance Bottoms, Deb Haaland, and Peggy Flanagan.

Several historic milestones stand out:
Abdul El-Sayed (Michigan) will become the nation’s first Muslim senator.
Deb Haaland (New Mexico) will become the nation’s first Native American woman governor.
Peggy Flanagan (Minnesota) will become the nation’s first Native American woman elected to the U.S. Senate.
Keisha Lance Bottoms (Georgia) will become the nation’s first Black woman governor.
Chris Pappas (New Hampshire) will become the nation’s first openly gay man elected to the U.S. Senate.

“This was a Democratic tsunami,” wrote Niall Stanage in The Hill.

Enjoy this uplifting reel.

Wishing everyone warmth and love today. xoxo
