Padikkal Emphasizes Seizing Opportunities After Maiden Test Century

Devdutt Padikkal amassed 167 runs in the opening innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. The innings marked just his third Test appearance and ranks as the fourth‑highest score by an Indian batsman on Sri Lankan soil.

Padikkal was called up as an injury replacement for Sai Sudharsan, making his return to Test cricket after almost two years away. He faced 230 deliveries, batted for over five hours, hitting 15 fours and a six before being stumped by Prabath Jayasuriya. Padikkal noted that he did not request any guarantees from the team regarding his place in the squad, and he added an unbeaten 44 in the second innings.

“It’s important that whenever you get that opportunity, you have to just take it. I don’t really go looking for those conversations. For me, it’s important that whenever I get that chance, I perform,” Padikkal said, as quoted by Cricinfo.
