Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Monday that Pakistan will host the signing ceremony of a historic agreement between the United States and Iran to end hostilities in a conflict that lasted three months. The ceremony will take place on Friday, June 19, in Geneva, as stated during a National Assembly session following the midnight announcement of the deal.
“The signing ceremony of this historic agreement will occur on Friday, June 19, in Geneva, and by the grace of God, it will be hosted by Pakistan,” he declared. Earlier that night, he revealed the agreement, which outlines a framework for ending the war, lifting the U.S. blockade of Iran, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The conflict began in late February when the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran. Pakistan played a pivotal role in mediating peace, hosting the first round of talks in Islamabad in April. Although initial negotiations failed to produce an agreement, they remained constructive, and Pakistan later brokered a fragile but functional ceasefire.
This breakthrough occurred after PM Shehbaz announced on X that the two sides had finalized a “peace deal.” Both nations have since declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. The prime minister hailed the agreement as a “historic milestone for peace.”
Today, Sharif emphasized that the three-month effort had ushered in a “new dawn,” with the U.S. and Iran committing to end hostilities. “This is not just an agreement between two nations but a success of peace and dialogue—a diplomatic triumph,” he stated, praising the leadership of both countries.
He highlighted the resilience and sense of the U.S. and Iranian leadership during tense negotiations, crediting their commitment for the global recognition of the moment. Gratitude was extended to Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan for their roles in facilitating the accord. Chinese President Xi Jinping, along with the UK, EU member states, and other international partners, were also acknowledged.
Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s diplomatic achievement, asserting, “Our name will be written in golden letters in history for our efforts.” The U.S. and Iran’s pledge to cease all military action marks a transformative step toward regional stability, with Pakistan celebrated as a cornerstone of this hard-won peace.
