Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Meets Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim, Offers Condolences for Late Sheikh Hamad

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha on Monday, offering formal condolences on the passing of Sheikh Hamad, the Emir’s father and former ruler of Qatar. The meeting took place at Lusail Palace, where the Pakistani premier extended his sympathy to the Qatari leadership, as confirmed by the Emir’s office.

The one-day visit included a delegation comprising PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. Upon arrival at Doha International Airport, the delegation was welcomed by Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani before proceeding to the Emir’s residence for the ceremonial meeting.

In the discussion, PM Shehbaz praised Sheikh Hamad’s transformative leadership, highlighting his role in modernizing Qatar and fostering regional stability. The Prime Minister also recalled the late Emir’s personal warmth toward Pakistan, noting his numerous visits to the country. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Qatar during the period of national mourning, praying for the late Emir’s legacy to be honored in the highest circles of paradise.

Emir Sheikh Tamim expressed gratitude to the Pakistani delegation for their gesture of attending the mourning proceedings in person, emphasizing it as a testament to the enduring fraternal ties between the two nations. Earlier statements from Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) underscored the significance of this high-level engagement, reflecting decades of diplomatic solidarity between Pakistan and Qatar. The visit followed Qatar’s official announcement on Sunday of Sheikh Hamad’s death, aged 74, after a tenure as Emir from 1995 to 2013. Pakistan has declared a day of national mourning, with flags hoisted at half-mast nationwide.
