Pakistani Security Forces Thwart Suicide Attack in South Waziristan, Neutralize Four Militants

Security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s South Waziristan district successfully thwarted a suicide bombing attempt on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of four terrorists, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR reported that militants attempted to ram a vehicle loaded with explosives into a security checkpost. The attack was decisively neutralized by the vigilant response of the security forces before the vehicle could breach the perimeter.

The explosives-laden vehicle was destroyed outside the post, killing the suicide bomber and preventing any damage to the facility. Following the initial blast, security troops engaged the remaining attackers, cornering three militants in a nearby compound. All three were subsequently neutralized during a precision clearance operation, with no casualties reported among the security forces.

The state uses the term Fitna al-Khawarij to refer to terrorists associated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Following the engagement, a sanitization operation was conducted in the surrounding area to ensure no further threats remained. The ISPR reaffirmed that the counter-terrorism campaign under the “Azm-i-Istehkam” vision, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, will continue aggressively to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism within Pakistan.

This incident follows a deadly attack on a joint police checkpost in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday, which claimed the lives of 15 people, including 14 security personnel (12 soldiers, two policemen, and one government official).

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has experienced a marked increase in militant activity over the last year. According to the 2025 Annual Security Report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), fatalities in the province rose significantly from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025. In response to the resurgence of violence in KP and Balochistan, the state has intensified its counter-terrorism operations against targets focusing on security personnel and law enforcement agencies.
