Paul Reubens’ Estate Auction to Showcase Iconic Pee‑we​e Herman Memorabilia

A comprehensive collection of memorabilia covering Paul Reubens’ entire career will be sold at Julien’s Auction on October 28. The sale will highlight iconic pieces from his Pee‑we​e Herman era, such as the signature gray suit and the custom red Schwinn bicycles he rode as the beloved character.

The auction features over 400 items from Reubens’ estate, encompassing rare limited‑edition JCPenney dolls, original costumes and props, stop‑motion puppets and claymation pieces, production scripts and storyboards, signed posters, and personal belongings.

Among the highlights is the slate‑gray glen plaid suit Reubens wore in the 2016 film *Pee‑wee’s Big Holiday*, complete with matching white shirt, red bowtie, pocket square, and white loafers. The ensemble is projected to sell for $8,000–$10,000.

One of the bicycles offered is a replica from *Pee‑wee’s Big Adventure*, packaged with his 2011 Visionary Spike TV Scream Award. The full‑scale replica of the red Schwinn DX he rode to accept the award is expected to fetch $5,000–$7,000.

A notable puppet up for sale is a *Pee‑wee’s Playhouse* dinosaur, an original wire‑armature and foam creation mounted on a custom wooden stand and equipped with an extruder handle for stop‑motion animation. Its listing price is $2,000–$3,000.

Additional smaller items priced under $1,000 include 12 prop food pieces from the *Pee‑wee Playhouse* refrigerator, such as claymation red pepper and bacon with armature arms, olive barbells, frozen food boxes, and desserts. These items are anticipated to sell for $800–$1,000.

Also included is a set of 13 scripts, one for each episode of *Pee‑wee’s Playhouse* Season One, plus a *Pee‑wee’s Big Adventure* script credited to Phil Hartman, Paul Reubens, and Michael Varhol. This screenplay contains minor differences from the final film, including a deleted magic shop scene. Each script is expected to sell for $500–$700.

On the Hollywood memorabilia side, a 1989 Pee‑wee Herman 40‑inch limited‑edition JCPenney doll (only 2,000 made) will be offered in the $300–$500 range, along with a metal production parking sign reading “Pee Wee’s / PLAYHOUSE / P. REUBENS.”

The live auction will take place on October 28 at 10 a.m. PT on Julien’s Auctions’ website and at The Groundlings Theatre, where Reubens continued to develop his craft and first showcased his Pee‑wee Herman character with the renowned improv group. To honor the late actor, who died in 2023 at age 70, Julien’s and The Groundlings will present an exclusive exhibition featuring highlights from Reubens’ archive from October 14 through October 28. On October 14, The Groundlings will screen several episodes from his career‑defining *Pee‑wee’s Playhouse* series, followed by a panel discussion.
