Asia’s sole dedicated exorcism training centre, intended to educate Filipino priests and clergy from throughout the region, is located just off a bustling road in Metro Manila.

Inside, neatly prepared rooms for visiting clergy line the warmly lit halls that lead to a chapel where the 400‑year‑old ritual is performed.

One wall displays holy relics used in the ceremonies, while an adjacent one‑way mirror permits family members and trainee exorcists to watch the proceedings.

The Michael Centre for Spiritual Liberation and Exorcism – which marks its fifth month this week – was established because “cases were piling up”, said Father Jose Francisco Syquia.

He explained that trauma stemming from bullying, sexual abuse, and the pain of family separation due to overseas work has increasingly opened the door to spiritual attacks.

“We needed a more permanent, secure, and private place to pray over people,” Syquia added.
