PlayStation Network Outage Disrupts Thousands of Gamers Worldwide

Gamers have been unable to access the PlayStation Network, preventing some from playing digital titles for several hours.

According to Down Detector, which monitors service outages, tens of thousands of users worldwide have reported issues with the service, though some have already restored connectivityexternal.

The outage, which prevents gamers from launching games, applications, or network features on their PlayStation consoles, has raised concerns about Sony’s announced intention to discontinue physical game releases starting in January 2028.

Sony’s status pageexternal indicates that all services are currently experiencing issues and that the company is working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

The BBC has sought comment from PlayStation.

“Can’t play digital games until the service is fixed; however, I can still play using my disc. The all‑digital future looks promising,” wrote a user on Xexternal.

In a blog post earlier this month, Sony stated that new titles will continue to be sold in physical stores, although they will be supplied with a digital codeexternal.

The issues emerged shortly after an Amazon Web Services alert indicated that some servers were experiencing problems, a situation that has since been resolvedexternal.
