A drug laboratory operating in an apartment in Haifa’s Central Carmel neighborhood was uncovered during an operation by officers from the Tirat Carmel police station, as part of an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and distribution, police reported Friday.
During the operation, officers located an apartment suspected of being used for drug production. A search of the premises led to the seizure of cannabis substances with a total weight of approximately seven kilograms.
Following the investigation, the commander of the Coastal Police, Assistant-Chief Yechiel Bohadana, signed an administrative closure order and directed that the premises be shut down.
Just last week, a weeks-long undercover investigation led to a large-scale operation by the Tel Aviv Central Unit.
During the raid, nine suspects were arrested, and massive sums of money in both foreign currency and shekels were confiscated, alongside dozens of kilograms of a substance suspected to be the synthetic drug known as “Doctor.”
Police have labeled the facility as one of the largest laboratories uncovered in recent years – an organized infrastructure that flooded the party scene with unprecedented quantities.
In the past month alone, five young people were found dead following drug use; however, at this stage, it remains unclear whether there is a connection between the deaths and the current operation.
A police source told Walla, “In recent months, toxic drugs have been distributed across the country disguised as various substances, and special forces are doing whatever it takes to locate them.”
According to the findings of the investigation, the arrested suspects operated as a single network: some, each according to their role, manufactured the drug in fully equipped laboratories, while others managed its distribution through criminals who flooded the local market with exceptionally large quantities. The Tel Aviv Central Unit had been tracking the operation for weeks.
