Rodrigo De Paul will miss Inter Miami’s upcoming away fixture against Philadelphia Union in the 2026 MLS season after accumulating sufficient yellow cards to trigger an automatic one-match suspension under league accumulation rules.
The timing adds pressure on head coach Guillermo Hoyos, who must restructure his midfield lineup. De Paul has been a near-constant starter since his arrival, and his absence creates a void in both defensive stability and offensive creativity.
This absence is not unprecedented for De Paul, who was also rested for matches against Chicago Fire and CF Montreal earlier in the season as part of a workload management strategy following Argentina’s demanding World Cup campaign. Notably, Inter Miami secured victory in both those outings despite the absence of Lionel Messi.
With De Paul unavailable, Inter Miami are expected to rely on Casemiro to anchor the midfield, with Lionel Messi continuing as the team’s focal point. The suspension is a short-term setback, and De Paul will be available once the ban is served.
Inter Miami Target Three-Game Winless Run Against Philadelphia
Beyond the De Paul suspension, Inter Miami face Philadelphia Union amid their most difficult stretch of the campaign. The Herons have suffered three consecutive defeats, including two Leagues Cup matches that ended their tournament run, followed by a 4-1 loss to Nashville SC where Lionel Messi missed his third consecutive penalty.
Despite the winless run, Inter Miami remain second in the MLS table with 39 points from 19 games, and a positive result against Philadelphia would help stabilize the side ahead of the season’s final stretch.
