Romanian Authorities File Additional Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation Charges Against Tate Brothers

The Tate brothers, former kickboxers with dual American and British citizenship, have been under criminal investigation in Romania since December 2022.

Since 2017, the brothers have primarily resided in Romania, amassing a significant social media following—predominantly among young men—through the dissemination of misogynistic messages and images portraying a luxurious lifestyle.

A substantial portion of the new charges centers on a vulnerable woman who, according to investigators, was recruited by Tristan Tate when she was 15 years old.

Allegations indicate that the woman was harbored in a property in Luton, Bedfordshire, for the purpose of sexual exploitation by Andrew Tate.

DIICOT investigators assert that Andrew controlled her through surveillance and physical intimidation, coercing her to perform sexual acts via video chats for financial gain.

Furthermore, he is accused of transporting her to Romania to continue exploiting her in two of his residences.

In a separate charge, Andrew Tate is accused of engaging in sexual activity with a minor, aged 15, within Romania.

Prosecutors have also requested the confiscation of four luxury vehicles belonging to the brothers, valued at £710,000, suspecting that the purchases involved laundered funds.

It remains uncertain whether DIICOT will pursue extradition from the United States, and the indictment must undergo judicial review before a trial can commence.

The Tate brothers have denied all allegations, asserting that their online personas do not reflect their true characters.

Their lawyer, Eugen Constantin Vidineac, stated that DIICOT’s decision does not establish guilt and should not be portrayed as such. He emphasized that it represents the prosecution’s latest attempt to bring the case to court following the failure of the previous indictment to proceed to trial.

He highlighted the history of the proceedings, noting that the previous indictment faced judicial scrutiny, during which significant irregularities were identified, preventing the case from advancing to trial.

VIDINEAC added that DIICOT has chosen to file a new indictment, and they will thoroughly examine every aspect, challenging any evidential, procedural, or legal deficiencies through the appropriate judicial channels.

He concluded by affirming that his clients continue to reject the allegations, asserting their rights to the presumption of innocence, to properly examine the evidence against them, and to mount an effective defense.
