Russell Brand was directed by a woman to exchange phone numbers following what she alleges was oral rape in the toilet of a London bar, a court has heard.
During the sixth day of Brand’s rape trial at London’s Southwark Crown Court, the jury reviewed footage from a 2023 police interview with a previous victim. She subsequently testified via a concealed partition in the courtroom:
Brand, aged 51, maintains his innocence. The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star consistently denies wrongdoing, contending that his contacts with women were consensual. From the docks, he observed the police tape and listened to C3’s evidence.
C3 recounted that she attended the birthday celebration of a British television producer at Soho’s Nordic Bar in July 2004 when she first encountered Brand. Deadline refrains from naming the individual to protect C3’s identity, although they have been identified during court proceedings.
C3 indicated that Brand arrived late to the event after filming. Their conversation began at the bar, and within moments she alleged that Brand “literally just grabbed my boobs” while displaying a “weird maniacal grin.”
Under questioning from Brand’s barrister, Mr. Winter, C3 struggled to recall whether she instructed Brand to cease contacting her or how she resisted his attempts to escort her to the facilities.
Winter suggested that C3 willingly accompanied Brand because she felt “charmed,” yet C3 herself described having no attraction at all—meeting him for less than a minute after his aggressive behavior.
In the restroom, the complainant alleged that Brand climbed onto the toilet seat, exposed himself, and inserted his genitals into her mouth. She reported that he pushed her head downward as far as possible before ejaculating within her.
“I closed my eyes and attempted not to engage,” the woman explained, wiping away tears. “If I perform this action, perhaps he will stop trying to rape me further,” she reflected. C3 memorialized ringing the door to escape after asking, “Can I go now?” Brand reportedly reopened the door, invited her back, and stated, ‘I guess we should swap numbers now.’”
Subsequent memories of the evening became fragmentary due to shock. C3 admitted consuming several vodkas, lime sodas, and other beverages. She asserted that she ultimately found herself in a vehicle with Brand after traveling between Soho and another venue in Camden, where he again exposed himself and appeared amused.
She revealed that following the incident, she contacted a television producer “a few days” later to warn him that Brand was a “sexual predator.” The producer reportedly replied, “I can’t believe that.”
Although C3 retained her right to confidentiality, she chose to identify herself by reference to the case file as Complaintant 3. Six women have filed complaints against Brand, prompting multiple charges including three counts of rape, three offenses of sexual assault, and one charge of indecent assault.
During his initial appearance, Brand declined to answer police interrogators and instead submitted a prepared statement denying recollection of any meetings and any associated names, insisting any such contact was consensual.
The court advised that the accused remained uncooperative during police questioning. The trial proceeds ongoing.
