Russia Launches 453 Drones Across Ukraine as Kyiv Hits Oil Refineries

Russia launched a wave of 453 drones across Ukraine overnight, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, while Kyiv reported attacks on oil facilities in Russia as the two countries continued striking each other’s infrastructure ahead of winter.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces said air defenses neutralized 409 of the drones, but strikes damaged 13 locations.

Multiple attacks on Stryi, a city in western Ukraine’s Lviv region near the Polish border, damaged a multi-storey residential building, an outbuilding beside a school and structures near a railway station.

In Izyum, a 26-year-old woman was killed when an explosive device detonated, according to Oleh Syniehub, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration. He said Kharkiv city and 15 settlements in the region were also targeted, leaving three people injured, including a 73-year-old woman.

On Saturday, at least five people were injured in western Ukraine’s Volyn region after more than 10 drones entered its airspace during an attack lasting more than four hours, regional governor Roman Romaniuk said.

A train in Lutsk was evacuated before debris struck it and started a fire. No injuries were reported, Romaniuk said.

Ukraine targets Russian oil infrastructure

A Ukrainian drone strike at an industrial facility in Nizhnekamsk, in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan, killed two people and injured 12 after starting a fire, Russian authorities said. Nizhnekamsk is home to a major oil-refining and petrochemical complex. Euronews has not independently confirmed the casualty figures.

Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence Directorate also said it targeted the Slavyansk-ECO oil refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban, in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, damaging a key oil-processing unit and the refinery’s tank farm.

Russia has concentrated on Ukraine’s electricity and energy infrastructure, while Ukraine has mainly targeted Russian oil and gas facilities.

Kremlin rules out G20 meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that he was willing to attend the G20 summit in Miami and meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines.

“We have to come. We have to meet, speak and make decisions,” Zelenskyy said. “It is not about words. What I will tell him or what he wants to tell me, it doesn’t matter. Results matter. That’s it.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed the prospect as “impossible,” saying Putin would meet Zelenskyy only in Moscow.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov separately said Moscow would not halt its “special military operation” during any peace negotiations.
