Over the past 24 hours, Russian military operations in Ukraine have caused at least eight fatalities and numerous injuries, according to local reports.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed a drone strike on Kharkiv’s northeastern region on Sunday, resulting in one death and nine injuries. Emergency services secured the affected area, with residential buildings impacted.
In Dnipropetrovsk, Russian attacks using drones, artillery, and aerial bombs on Saturday killed two women, aged 35 and 74, according to authorities. Additional strikes later in the day in Zaporizhzhia Oblast claimed one life and injured 12 others, with regional officials noting 1,029 strikes across 50 settlements in the prior day.
Kherson Oblast reported two fatalities and 24 injuries this weekend as Russian forces targeted infrastructure, including homes, a church, gas pipelines, and commercial facilities, per regional head Oleksandr Prokudin’s Telegram post.
Sumy Oblast experienced a tragic incident where a 53-year-old man died and eight others were wounded following Russian attacks. Separately, a fire erupted at an Epitsentr DIY store in Kryvyi Rih after a shopping center strike.
Kazakh Leader Urges Conflict Ceasefire
Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev urged Russia to halt its war in Ukraine during a reported meeting with Vladimir Putin. He emphasized the human cost, stating, “It is a shame, young people are dying… This must end,” as per AFP.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha praised Toqayev’s “realistic” call for diplomacy, noting Ukraine’s proposal for a ceasefire along current lines. The Kremlin rejected this, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissing the idea as “impossible.”
North Korea’s Involvement Escalates
Zelenskyy warned that Russia aims to deploy 30,000 North Korean troops to Ukraine, with preparations underway since June. He stated Pyongyang is also supplying missile launchers, posing a broader Asian security threat.
North Korean forces have supported Russia since late 2024, initially in Kursk Oblast. Zelenskyy cautioned that this collaboration enhances North Korea’s wartime capabilities, endangering neighboring regions.
