Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the attacks via Telegram, describing the city as under sustained assault. He stated, “Early reports indicate a strike on a non-residential building in Sviatoshynskyi district, with a transformer substation ablaze in Darnytskyi district and a three-story office fire in Solomianskyi district.”
The State Emergency Service reported 10 casualties, including one child. Ukrainian forces claimed Russia deployed six Iskander ballistic missiles, four Kh-59/69 cruise missiles, two Kh-31 anti-radiation missiles, and 121 attack drones overnight. Luft defenses intercepted 111 drones and two cruise missiles, according to preliminary assessments.
The attack followed a prior massive strike last week, which resulted in 30 deaths and damage to over 20 locations. Klitschko called the latest assault “the most extensive on Kyiv to date.”
Intelligence sources indicate Russia utilized 570 air attack assets, including four Zircon missiles, 24 Iskander ballistic missiles, and 496 Shahed-type drones. Separately, strikes in eastern Donetsk killed seven and injured 21 on Friday.
In retaliation, Ukrainian forces targeted Moscow’s energy sector, striking oil refineries and storage facilities in Omsk, Saratov, Rostov, Tver, Stavropol, and Krasnodar. These actions disrupted fuel supplies, prompting Russia to ban diesel exports to stabilize its economy.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed a strike on an Omsk refinery and additional attacks on energy infrastructure. However, the head of Ukraine’s military warned that a decisive turning point in the conflict remained distant, with Russia advancing in Luhansk, Donetsk, and planning further offensives in Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
