Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Civil Aviation confirmed on Friday that King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh suffered two coordinated attacks, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including a Saudia Airlines captain.
The first assault targeted airport infrastructure, while the second struck a Saudia aircraft.
Saudia Airlines stated that Captain Hamoud Ali Al‑Kalthami was killed in Thursday’s attack on the airport.
“Emergency response teams and relevant authorities reacted immediately to both incidents, following established protocols and contingency plans,” the authority said on social media.
The assaults caused the deaths of three Saudi citizens and injured several others, ranging from minor to severe injuries. All those affected were promptly taken to hospital for treatment.
“The Authority is working continuously, in close coordination with security agencies, to assess the damage, implement necessary safety measures, protect passengers and staff, and safeguard the Kingdom’s civil aviation system. Operations at the airport have resumed and air traffic has returned to normal,” GACA added.
