The Seahawks, who entered the week with limited depth at running back, invited Joe Mixon to attend a workout in Seattle on Monday. The session initially appeared promising, but the evaluation ultimately concluded otherwise.
As a result, the team decided not to add Mixon to their practice squad. The decision was reportedly influenced by concerns surrounding his physical condition.
When asked about the outcome during his Wednesday press conference, coach Mike Macdonald addressed the situation.
“It didn’t work out,” Macdonald said. “That’s probably the most we should say about it with respect to the process. Those things happen and it’s a part of the process.”
Mixon’s health status remains unclear. He spent the entire 2025 season on the Houston Texans’ non‑football injury list, and the nature of his ailment was never disclosed.
Consequently, Mixon remains a free agent and can sign with any franchise. Several teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, are seeking reinforcements at the running back position.
