Continuing intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in North Waziristan, security forces have neutralized 21 terrorists over the past 72 hours, confirming a significant disruption to extremist networks in the region, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military’s media wing reported engagements in the Miranshah area and surrounding districts, targeting high-value terrorist positions linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates.
The statement detailed the elimination of four key ring leaders from Fitna al-Khawarij, including Kharji Khalid Raza (alias Salar), Kharji Muftoon, Kharji Musa, and Kharji Imran (alias Ayan), who were responsible for planning attacks on security personnel and civilians.
Since the start of operations last week, which already resulted in 27 fatalities within 72 hours, the total violence-related kills now stand at 48, reflecting the effectiveness of precision-driven counterterrorism efforts.
Arsenal and explosives seized from the terrorists were recovered, with authorities noting their active role in multiple attacks against law enforcement and ordinary citizens.
Sanitization missions will persist in the region to dismantle remaining terrorist sanctuaries, the military reiterated, under Pakistan’s “Azm-i-Istehkam” counterterrorism initiative.
To reinforce security, the Miranshah subdivision has been under indefinite Section 144 restrictions since June 2, prohibiting public movement. This decision followed a thwarted suicide attack on a military post in late May, underscoring heightened risks.
Contextually, Pakistan’s security challenges have escalated in 2026, with intensified terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reported a sharp deterioration in May, linked to coordinated attacks against security forces.
