Severnside Clash Debuts in Gloucester with Armoured Combat Spectacle

Eleven men’s teams and four women’s teams converged on Gloucester this weekend for the city’s inaugural armoured combat tournament, known as buhurt. Dubbed the Severnside Clash, the event hosted competitors from across the country in a display of full-contact medieval martial arts.

Captain of the Gloucester men’s team, Kiran Emery, reported the competition had “drawn a lot of praise” from both spectators and fighters, confirming the tournament will return in 2027. The competition format pits teams of five against one another in an arena, clad in full steel armour and wielding real weapons.

The host city celebrated a clean sweep in the women’s division, where Gloucester’s two teams—the Hellions—claimed first and second place. The men’s squad secured a third-place finish in their class.
