Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, locked in a fierce battle with Deshaun Watson for the Week 1 starting job, has declared his aspirations extend far beyond mere roster inclusion.
The rookie sensation recently took to his YouTube channel to express his ultimate goal of becoming one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL.
“I’m not content just being on no team,” Sanders stated. “I’m trying to be one of the greatest. You’ve got to be thankful, but know there’s still more. There’s still more.”
During his reflection on his inaugural season, Sanders highlighted a pivotal Week 17 performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers—a game where he transitioned from infrequent bench player to active participant.
“We were playing the Steelers, and their linebackers were hitting [hard]. I’m on the pine the whole year,” Sanders recalled. “You get out there you’re like, ‘This is something. I could do something like this.'”
Sanders acknowledged receiving criticism for celebrating a third-down attempt that failed to convert, but framed the moment as personal validation.
“To me that’s an accomplishment,” he explained. “This dude tried to knock my head off… That’s the whole thing I’m celebrating. I know it’s fourth down, but I just evaded this tackle. I just got away.”
While the Browns’ 2023 season yielded limited highlights, Sanders remains optimistic about future achievements.
“Last year we didn’t have a lot to celebrate, but I believe I’ll have plenty to celebrate over the course of my career.”
