Sir Tom Jones Exits The Voice UK After 86-Year Career

Sir Tom Jones has announced that he has been removed from ITV’s The Voice UK, with his involvement in the current 14th series appearing to be his last. In a social media post, Jones said ITV’s decision was driven by “a financial difficulty with insurance” and a wish to refresh the programme’s lineup.

He explained that he had no intention of leaving the show, expressing his love for The Voice and its audience. Jones noted that ITV had made the decision some time ago but only informed him recently, offering him a reduced role that would not involve full participation from the start. He indicated he was not enthusiastic about such an arrangement and has not yet accepted the offer. ITV has not commented further.

Reflecting on his departure, Jones observed, “There’s never a good time to fire an 86‑year‑old who’s still pretty good at his job.”

Former colleague Olly Murs posted a message of support, calling Jones “an absolute legend and one of the very best to ever sit in that chair.” Will.i.am, who has appeared alongside Jones on every season, responded with a series of nearly 100 crying emojis.

The Voice UK premiered in 2012, and Jones was an original panel member, missing only the fifth series when Boy George took over. He returned for the following season and has coached three winners: Leanne Mitchell (series 1), Ruti Olajugbagbe (series 7) and Anthonia Edwards (series 11).

The current season’s panel includes Jones alongside Kelly Rowland, will.i.am, and the duo Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones of McFly.

At 86, Jones is best known for hits such as “It’s Not Unusual” and “What’s New Pussycat?” released in 1965. He won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 1966 and has recorded more than 40 albums over a six‑decade career. His most recent album, Surrounded by Time, arrived in 2021.
