Graeme Souness, in his newly released book ‘My Rangers: How I changed Scottish football for ever’, asserts that Rangers have gained a significant psychological advantage over Celtic following their two consecutive victories in the Old Firm derby.

The victories occurred in September, with Rangers securing a 3-0 win in the League Cup at Ibrox and a 1-0 triumph in the Premiership at Celtic Park, placing them just two points behind the champions in the table.

Souness stated, “They have now psychologically planted a seed in Celtic’s heads that they are bigger, stronger, and better than them in the last two games.”

He explained that Celtic were left bewildered by the 3-0 defeat, and that the subsequent 1-0 victory did not flatter Rangers, reinforcing the psychological shift.

However, Souness cautioned that this edge could be temporary if Rangers lose to teams they are expected to beat, emphasizing that every opponent treats matches against Rangers as a cup final.

He noted that Rangers have built a strong platform but must avoid complacency, with manager Derek McInnes needing to remind the team of the challenges ahead.

Souness praised McInnes, highlighting his familiarity with Scottish football as a former player, and acknowledged that while Rangers started slowly, they have recently turned a significant corner.
