The southern province of Almería has been ravaged by Spain’s most severe wildfire in twenty years, resulting in at least 12 fatalities and leaving 23 people missing. According to authorities, the fire may have ignited when a fallen power line struck dry vegetation. With Europe confronting a premature and vigorous fire season, Spain now accounts for roughly 40 % of the continent’s burned area, as firefighters work to contain the flames.
