Contract negotiations between the Pittsburgh Steelers and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. remain at an impasse, with new details emerging about the team’s latest proposal.
According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, as reported by Ross McCorkle of SteelersDepot.com, the Steelers offered Porter a deal that would pay him “just north of $27 million this year.”
That figure represents a substantial increase over the $3.924 million Porter is scheduled to earn in the final year of his rookie contract. However, the 2026 payout alone does not clarify the full structure; it does not guarantee the contract would average $27 million annually in new money, nor does it ensure any injury guarantees for 2027.
Porter declined the offer, and Dulac notes the two sides are not currently engaged in active negotiations.
The standoff leaves the situation in limbo: Porter could report to avoid fines, the Steelers could take a harder line, a trade could materialize, or talks could resume to produce a long-term agreement.
