Telstra CEO Faces Parliamentary Inquiry Over National Mobile Outage
Telstra’s leadership will face scrutiny in a parliamentary inquiry regarding a widespread service disruption that impacted emergency calls, business operations, payment networks, and rail systems across two states.
Vicki Brady, the company’s chief executive, will participate in the inquiry alongside other executives, scheduled for Friday in Canberra.
Greens spokesperson Sarah Hanson-Young emphasized that the investigation stems from concerns over corporate priorities, stating that Telstra, like its rival Optus, has historically prioritized profits over public service and safety.
The company is processing compensation claims from affected individuals and businesses requiring substantiated evidence. Hanson-Young accused Telstra of minimal effort in addressing consumer concerns, calling for automatic compensation for those impacted.
Additional witnesses, including representatives from the Australian Communications and Media Authority and government communications officials, will provide testimony during the inquiry.
