During a patron saint festival in a Mexico State town, pyrotechnic material detonated, causing a wall to collapse and resulting in at least 10 deaths and 64 injuries, according to Mexican authorities.
The blast occurred Saturday evening outside the Nuestra Señora de la Luz church in Temascalcingo, a central‑Mexico municipality of about 66,000 people. Hundreds of residents had gathered to view a religious‑festival fireworks show when the explosion struck.
Temascalcingo lies roughly 160 kilometers (100 miles) northwest of Mexico City.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause, and the Mexico State Attorney General’s Office has launched an investigation.
A local bishop reported that two of the injured are priests.
Social‑media footage depicts the blast’s aftermath, showing dozens of individuals moving through smoke and debris as they search for survivors.
