(MedPage Today) — For de novo coronary lesions, drug-coated balloons (DCBs) were just as effective as standard drug-eluting stents, the TRANSFORM II trial showed. Among patients with native coronary lesions undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, the trial demonstrated that DCBs achieved outcomes comparable to standard drug‑eluting stents, with no significant difference in efficacy, procedural success, or target‑vessel protection. These findings support a stent‑free approach using DCBs as a viable alternative for de novo coronary lesions, potentially reducing radiation exposure and enabling faster vessel restoration while maintaining long‑term patency.
