President Donald Trump has declared that the United States will impose “tremendous economic consequences” on any nation providing support or conducting business with Iran.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated he is initiating “the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country,” though he did not name specific nations or provide further technical details.
This development follows the expiration of a 60-day ceasefire with Iran on Monday, amid a lack of visible diplomatic or military resolutions to the ongoing conflict involving the US and Israel that began in late February.
The President’s rhetoric appears to be an escalation of “Operation Economic Fury,” a campaign initiated in April targeting foreign banks and corporations engaged in transactions with Tehran.
In a social media post on Wednesday evening, Trump referred to his upcoming actions as “economic D-Day” for Iran, citing the Islamic Republic’s failure to reach a deal with the United States.
“Any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences,” Trump warned, without specifying the exact nature of the penalties.
Trump added: “Oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies – It all needs to stop NOW. You know who you are.”
The President’s remarks follow recent comments from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who suggested the US would pursue a level of economic isolation against Iran “like the world has never seen before.”
