US President Donald Trump’s recent financial disclosure revealing approximately $1.2 billion in cryptocurrency earnings for 2025 has intensified calls for ethics provisions in the pending Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act.

Trump’s Crypto Revenue Breakdown

According to Trump’s latest financial disclosure, he earned roughly $1.2 billion from his crypto-related ventures last year. His DeFi platform World Liberty Financial (WLFI), co-founded with his sons and associates, generated approximately $500 million. An additional $635 million came from memecoin royalties, including from the Official Trump (TRUMP) token, which peaked at $75.35 shortly after launch but now trades below $2.

Trump also disclosed over $50 million in self-custodied Bitcoin. His total disclosed profits of $2.2 billion in his first presidential year has elevated Forbes’ estimate of his net worth to approximately $6.5 billion.

Ethics Debate Heats Up

The disclosures have reignited criticism over Trump’s continued crypto investments while serving as president and crafting pro-crypto regulatory policies. Lawmakers argue this creates obvious conflicts of interest that the CLARITY Act should address.

Senator Elizabeth Warren and other Democrats have emphasized the need for legislation preventing top officials from profiting from crypto decisions. However, some argue Warren and allies should focus on adding safeguards to the CLARITY Act rather than blocking it entirely.
