U2 have been selected as the 2027 MusiCares Persons of the Year, with Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. set to receive recognition at a gala event on February 5, 2027, the evening before the Grammy Awards. The lineup of performers set to interpret the band’s iconic songs has not yet been disclosed.
“We are profound admirers of MusiCares and the essential support services they provide to the vast network of talent within the music industry,” the band stated in a written declaration. “Our five decades of recording and touring have been made possible by colleagues ranging from producers and engineers to carpenters and riggers. ‘Persons of the Year’ captures the spirit of this collaboration perfectly, as it reflects the indomitable fans and partners who have enabled us to sustain our creative journey and champion causes close to our hearts. It is an immense honor, and we look forward to witnessing our first-ever U2 concert—though we’re certain they’ll outplay us on stage.”
Theresa Wolters, executive director of MusiCares, remarked, “Throughout their storied career, U2 has exemplified the profound influence music wields to unite audiences, spotlight urgent causes, and galvanize collective action.”
This year, U2 has remained prolific, releasing two new EPs, delivering renditions of the Pogues’ material, and unveiling tracks from their anticipated yet untitled studio album.
