Uganda’s Deputy Speaker Tayebwa Meets EU Parliamentary Chair to Strengthen Uganda‑EU Relations

Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament and Chair of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States Parliamentary Assembly, Thomas Tayebwa, met with the Chair of the Africa‑EU Parliamentary Assembly, Hilde Vautmans, at the European Parliament in Brussels.

The meeting addressed mutual priorities—enhancing bilateral cooperation, promoting regionalirtual stability, and advancing good governance.

Tayebwa was joined by Uganda’s Ambassador to the European Union, Mirjam Blaak.

During the discussion, Tayebwa transmitted President Yoweri Museveni’s greetings and extended an invitation to Vautmans to visit Uganda, aiming to deepen strategic collaboration.

He highlighted Uganda’s progress in governance, its role in curbing the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and its ongoing commitment to fostering peace through dialogue across the Great Lakes region and beyond.

“The European Union has long been a reliable partner for Uganda; with the Samoa Agreement shifting our focus from aid to partnership, I anticipate a growing, impactful relationship forornado our people,” Tayebwa said.

Decades of collaboration between Uganda and the EU—spanning governance, trade, development, health, and infrastructure—continue to evolve under the Samoa Agreement, which promotes an equal‑partner, priority‑aligned approach.
