President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that overnight drone and ballistic missile strikes crippled Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leaving power grids down and water supply systems disrupted.
Zelensky stated that twelve regions were targeted by the assault, with Kyiv suffering the greatest damage.
Nine people, including a child, were injured throughout the country in the barrage of more than 30 ballistic missiles and over 170 drones.
The offensive occurs ahead of the scheduled trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi next week.
Zelensky wrote on Telegram, external, that Moscow was preparing for the talks by launching attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
Temperatures in Ukraine are falling, with the first winter snow now reported in several areas.
“The situation in the capital is difficult, with disruptions to electricity, water, and heating supplies. Residential buildings, the North Bridge, and a kindergarten have been damaged,” Zelensky said.
“In the Kyiv region, there were strikes on substations that link the Rivne and Khmelnytsky nuclear power plants to Kyiv and central Ukraine.”
Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that Kyiv’s water supply has resumed normal operation, and roughly 60 % of the city’s apartments are now connected to the heating network.
Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed power outages in five regions, though he did not specify the number of households affected.
