While the original Red Dead Redemption remains a remarkable achievement, much of the modern praise is understandably directed toward its stunning sequel. Nevertheless, one area where the first game still holds an edge is the single-player DLC that Rockstar provided.
The Undead Nightmare DLC proved to be a major hit, unleashing the undead across the Old West and casting players as a final line of defense armed with little more than a six-shooter and a horse. It was a standout addition, and fans hoped the sequel would receive comparable treatment.
That never came to pass, and Red Dead Redemption 2 never received official DLC—an omission that feels like a travesty given the base game’s scope and quality. Now, however, a dedicated fan project could change all of that, potentially becoming one of the most exciting releases of the coming years if it comes to fruition.
Over on YouTube, channel Rixus uploaded the first trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2: Undead Damnation, a major mod that recreates what made the original Undead Nightmare so special. The description reads as follows:
“After many months of hard work behind the scenes, I’m honored to present the first look at our new project for the Red Dead Redemption 2 community: Undead Damnation. This fan-created prequel to Undead Nightmare incorporates all the mechanics and features of the original 2010 DLC. It recaptures the apocalyptic atmosphere of the undead curse, spreading it across the entire game map from Annesburg to Tumbleweed, and includes new locations to save, cemeteries to clear, new missions and encounters, classic soundtracks, new zombie types, and much more. Coming soon for free to everyone via Nexusmods.”
Arguably the creators’ wisest move is to replicate the original DLC as faithfully as possible, only within the sequel—which offers stronger gameplay. As the saying goes, if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Even the early trailer looks impressive.
Obviously, the mod remains some distance from completion, especially since it does not yet have an official Nexus Mods page. Still, it is an exciting project worth following.
Rockstar GamesNew experiences within Red Dead Redemption 2 will likely be our best opportunity to enjoy the franchise for some time. Attention is understandably focused on Grand Theft Auto VI for the next year or two, but beyond that, Rockstar’s plans for their cowboy classic remain unclear. The series was only ever intended as a two-part story, so this may be its final entry. Let’s hope not.

Clean text content: remove promotional lines, “SEE ALSO” links, footer junk. In this snippet there is no promotional lines or SEE ALSO or footer besides the span at end. The span seems like a footer element. Also any other promotional content? The body includes promotional lines? Probably the “Elsewhere in the interview” is part of story. The span data-analytics-end is likely a footer; we should remove it. 2. Protect all media: keep and figcaption tags exactly as they are, in original positions. We need to rewrite headline: original “Ashley Walters has not spoken to ‘Bulletproof’ co-star Noel Clarke since sexual assault allegations”. Need unique, fresh, professional. Maybe: “Ashley Walters Remains Silent on ‘Bulletproof’ Co‑Star Noel Clarke Amid Assault Allegations”. Or something. Rewrite body: need to produce natural high-quality professional English. But keep media elements unchanged. We need to output: [TITLE] …
