Torrential rain and strong winds are hardly the stuff of fantasy.
Yet neither deterred roughly 30 dedicated fans who turned out for the latest release in Sarah J. Maas’s romantasy series, A Court of Splintered Harmony, in Carrickfergus, County Antrim.
The sixth installment in Maas’s bestselling A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series arrived at midnight on Tuesday, ending a five-year wait for readers.
The midnight launch event took place Monday evening at The Secret Bookshelf, an independent shop just off the town’s main street.
Friends Katie Mccabrey and Amy Savage were among those eager to secure early copies once the embargo lifted.
Like many attendees, Katie and Amy turn to books to unwind from the pressures of daily life.
“I love reading these kinds of fantasy books because the real world can be a bit terrible, and I love escaping into a world of fairies and everything otherworldly,” Amy said.
“We’re all here tonight because we share a common need to escape everyday life, and this is a great way to do it,” Katie added.
