A Venezuelan mother tragically lost her life while shielding her child during catastrophic earthquakes in Caracas, as confirmed by local media and footballer Héctor «Kike» Bello.

Bello shared on Instagram that his «precious love», identified by Venezuelan outlets as his wife Andrea, heroically protected their toddler amid the twin seismic events.

In his tribute, Bello wrote: «I will tell her the story of how you saved her, my love—how you gave your own life for our daughter, demonstrating courage even in your final moments.»

Search and rescue teams are working through debris after the earthquakes, which resulted in 589 fatalities and nearly 3,000 injuries near Caracas.

Bello later posted that his daughter and aunt remained hospitalized but stable, expressing gratitude to supporters: «They won’t be discharged today—they’re still in the hospital. Thank you for enduring this profound grief with me.»

An Instagram story from Bello further reflected his anguish: «How do I explain to your daughter that you lost your life to save hers? How do I convey this absence? Strengthen my resolve now.»

Cumaná de Campeones, a Venezuelan football press agency, also announced Andrea’s passing, stating: «We mourn the loss of Héctor Bello’s partner from Cumana, who died in building rubble. Their daughter survived the collapse.»

Univision, a U.S. Spanish outlet, corroborated the news of Bello’s wife’s death.
