Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder will present Vincent Kompany with a distinguished award recognizing his dedication to combating racism.
The Bavarian State Chancellery confirmed that the ceremony will be held Saturday evening in Munich, following Bayern Munich’s match in Augsburg.
In a press release, Söder stated: “Vincent Kompany is an exceptional coach with a clear playing philosophy, strong leadership, and charisma both on and off the pitch. Under his leadership, FC Bayern Munich demonstrates dynamic, attacking football. Through trust and a confident approach, he transforms exceptional individual talents into a cohesive and inspiring team each season. The former ‘FC Hollywood’ has evolved into a successful ‘FC Feelgood.’
The statement emphasized Kompany’s steadfast position on combating racism and exclusion. “He has consistently affirmed that racism has no place in sports or in our society. His unambiguous call for human dignity has resonated far beyond the athletic arena. This underscores Vincent Kompany not only as a distinguished figure in sports but also as a societal role model who embraces responsibility,” he concluded.
In February, Kompany gained attention for delivering an 11-minute address against racism after addressing Vinicius Junior’s racial abuse during a Champions League match against Benfica.
Former award recipients include Franz Beckenbauer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Thomas Müller, and Sepp Maier.
