“Simply take a step back and relax; everything will ultimately resolve itself – that has historically been the case.”
Donald Trump’s recent statement mirrors a well‑known saying: “Everything will be alright in the end; if it is not, it is not yet the end.” Although this maxim is frequently misattributed to Oscar Wilde, John Lennon and Paulo Coelho, its earliest recorded appearance dates to a 1988 publication by Brazilian author Fernando Sabino.
A hopeful sentiment, yet its application must consider current geopolitical realities, especially as the international community monitors developments related to Iran’s ongoing conflict, which has contributed to rising fuel prices and living costs worldwide.
Trump’s remark was shared by the official White House account together with the caption “TRUST IN TRUMP”.
The post quickly went viral, but it failed to generate optimism or calm among observers.
Many critics have expressed dissatisfaction with the “step back and relax” approach, as well as with a prior statement by Trump suggesting that “Iran is eager to negotiate” while labeling dissenting voices “political hacks” who “negatively chirp.”
“We appear to have entered a Hallmark‑card stage of Trump policy articulation,” one commentator noted, while another wrote: “The official White House messaging urging Americans to ‘just relax’ amid unaffordable groceries and rent, while gasoline prices sit at $4.50 per gallon, is astonishing,” accompanied by a shaking‑my‑head emoji.

Analysts have observed that Trump has reposted the same Truth Social update regarding Iran on three separate occasions.
The first instance, posted on 18 May, read: “If Iran surrenders, admits that its navy lies at the bottom of the sea, its air force is no longer operational, its entire military withdraws from Tehran, weapons are dropped and hands are raised while waving the white flag, its remaining leadership signs all required surrender documents and acknowledges defeat to the great power and force of the United States, the failing New York Times, The China Street Journal (WSJ!), Corrupt and now Irrelevant CNN, and all other members of the Fake News Media will proclaim that Iran achieved a Masterful and Brilliant Victory over the United States of America; it was not even close. The Dumacrats and Media have totally lost their way. They have gone absolutely CRAZY!!!”
The identical post was subsequently published on 26 May and again on 2 June.
“Grandpa is out of material,” remarked Republicans Against Trump.
