Former army chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot has been selected by President Isaac Herzog to lead the formation of Israel’s next government.
If successful, Eisenkot would succeed Benjamin Netanyahu as prime minister, taking over from Israel’s longest‑serving leader whose combative style has garnered both strong support and vehement opposition.
Unlike Netanyahu, Eisenkot is a modest, low‑key figure; many voters who are weary of Netanyahu view his restrained demeanor and limited charisma as a significant advantage.
