Scott Bain of Falkirk has stepped into the squad for the current Nations League campaign following Gordon’s retirement, yet there is a growing perception that Scotland’s goalkeeping depth is not as strong as it once was.

“I don’t see anyone pushing hard to take his place, as many of the alternatives aren’t currently active in competitive football,” Halliday remarked.
“While Gunn may merit the starting spot, the confidence inspired by Angus Gunn doesn’t match that evoked by past stalwarts such as Craig Gordon, Allan McGregor, David Marshall, Jim Leighton, or Andy Goram—goalkeepers who have defined Scottish football over the past two to three decades.”
“Upon reviewing the first and third goals—though I may be in the minority regarding the third, as many believe it was struck with tremendous pace—I wonder whether those earlier goalkeepers would have saved them. I believe they would have.”
