US Secretary of State Steve Witkoff and Deputy Advisor Jared Kushner met with nuclear specialists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory on Thursday to discuss technical aspects of potential Iran nuclear negotiations, sources told Axios.
The delegation reportedly included 100 experts selected for possible involvement in Iran talks should a preliminary agreement form, according to the report.
These specialists have experience in managing nuclear materials from countries like Venezuela, Kazakhstan, and Libya, including recent operations involving enriched Venezuelan uranium now stored in South Carolina, sources noted.
The meeting signals advanced-stage negotiations rather than an imminent deal, with officials stating it reflects preparation for a successful outcome, Axios reported.
Key discussion points included verification protocols for compliance, enrichment limitations, and secure handling of existing Iranian nuclear assets, per the report.
Some participants had previously traveled with Witkoff and Kushner to Oman during initial talks related to Operation Epic Fury, sources added.
