The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 mini-auction took place at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi on Wednesday, October 28. With 27 slots available across the five franchises, 150 players entered the bidding pool. Australia’s Sophie Molineux secured the highest bid of the day, joining UP Warriorz for INR 1.10 crore.
Yet, several high-profile cricketers went unpicked. Despite strong credentials, a number of recognized names failed to draw a single bid, leaving them without a WPL contract for the upcoming season. Below are three notable players who remained unsold.
3. Uma Chetry
Uma Chetry, a 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, previously played for UP Warriorz in the WPL. Her name appeared early in the auction proceedings on October 28, but no franchise bid at her base price of INR 30 lakh.
Chetry has featured in one ODI and seven T20Is for India and is considered a reliable glovework specialist. She was a member of the Indian squad that clinched the ODI World Cup last year, rendering her exclusion from the auction all the more unexpected. Additionally, Chetry holds the distinction of being the first cricketer from Assam—male or female—to represent India at the international level.
