A pivotal update clarifies Oba Femi’s path to SummerSlam, solidifying his SummerSlam matchup against Brock Lesnar.
Femi delivered a career-defining victory over Jey Uso at Night of Champions to claim the 2026 King of the Ring title. Early speculation suggested a potential clash with either Roman Reigns or Sami Zayn. However, a significant shift occurred when Lesnar re-entered the fold following Night of Champions.
The rivalry between Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar reignited upon Lesnar’s return, culminating in a scheduled Hell in a Cell encounter at SummerSlam. As reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), WWE’s strategic decision involved Femi opting to bypass a world title shot against Roman Reigns in favor of facing Lesnar. This move was aimed at positioning Femi-Roman Reigns as the marquee match for the event.
The decision was always for Oba Femi to win King of the Ring but decline his world title opportunity against Roman Reigns to instead face Brock Lesnar.
The goal was to frame Femi vs. Reigns as the marquee match of the year.
