An XRP Ledger validator has explained why XRP’s importance may extend beyond its market price.
In a recent X post, Vet addressed questions about why XRP has not seen broader usage and why growth in tokenized assets on the network has not translated into stronger price performance.
He argued that such concerns overlook the XRP Ledger’s broader purpose as a multi-asset network that has supported a range of assets since 2012.
According to Vet, XRP serves a distinctive function within this ecosystem, acting as a bridge between assets while supporting the ledger’s underlying operations.
Auto-Bridging Enables XRP to Connect Assets
Vet highlighted XRP’s auto-bridging function on the XRPL’s decentralized exchange. This feature allows XRP to act as an intermediary when users trade between two different assets, potentially enabling more efficient trading routes when direct trading pairs lack sufficient liquidity.
As more assets enter the ecosystem, this function could become increasingly useful. Tokenized assets and other issued tokens can trade on the ledger, while XRP helps connect markets and facilitate exchanges between assets that might otherwise have limited direct liquidity.
Beyond its role in trading, XRP also supports the network’s basic operations, according to Vet. Users need it to pay transaction fees and satisfy account reserve requirements, making it an integral part of the ledger’s infrastructure.
Vet Describes XRP as a Neutral Form of Money
Vet also emphasized XRP’s distinction from issued tokens. As the XRP Ledger’s native asset, XRP does not depend on an issuer to maintain its existence. Furthermore, unlike issuer-controlled tokens that support freezing mechanisms, he noted that XRP cannot be frozen at the protocol level.
These characteristics give XRP a degree of neutrality within the ecosystem. Users can transact with the asset without depending on a central issuer to authorize its existence or continued use.
Vet highlighted this position emphatically, declaring that “XRP is money!”
‘XRP’s Price Should Reflect Network Adoption,’ Vet
Addressing concerns about XRP’s price performance, Vet argued that the priority should be building a useful network that attracts users and businesses. As adoption expands, he believes XRP could see greater utility as a neutral asset connecting different markets across the ledger.
From this perspective, price appreciation should follow increased usage and acceptance rather than serve as the primary measure of the network’s success.
“Let the price of the native asset be a knock on effect of large scale usage and acceptance of the XRP Ledger,” Vet remarked.
Meanwhile, XRP was trading at $1.32, down 65.61% from its previous all-time high of $3.84.
Meanwhile, Vet has previously highlighted the potential for XRPL and other blockchain networks to transform the future of finance. The entry of new capital into the XRPL ecosystem could support further development, although its eventual impact on XRP will depend on how that capital translates into actual network usage and demand for the native asset.
