Yayoi Kusama, the influential Japanese artist associated with the 1960s avant-garde movement, withdrew from public life for many years before achieving worldwide acclaim later in her career. She became renowned for her distinctive polka-dot paintings and immersive mirrored “infinity rooms,” which gained massive popularity on social media platforms. Kusama passed away on August 14 at a hospital in Tokyo at the age of 97.
