A memorable moment during the final ODI between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh at the Harare Sports Club saw Zimbabwe opener Ben Curran dismissed in a sudden and unintended way. The left-handed batsman appeared safe after negotiating a testy spell from Bangladesh’s bowlers, only to be captured out shortly after—a confusing conclusion to a challenging match between the two teams.
The event happened in the sixth over of Zimbabwe’s innings when pacer Shoriful Islam delivered a well-targeted short-pitched ball. Curran attempted to play it with something delicate, though the ball edged inside the edge, rolling towards the stumps. Although Curran moved swiftly to protect his wicket, he failed to remove the bails, and before he could respond to the unfolding events, the umpire signaled him out. Kaptajn Shoriful took the opportunity to continue the momentum, increasing the pressure on the Zimbabwean batters.
Curran’s exit proved vital, as the middle order were eventually able to stave off any collapse, scoring a competitive 199 in 48.1 overs. Wessly Madhevere played a key role in laying the foundation, scoring an even 75 from 74 deliveries, hitting five boundaries into the outfield. In the last stages of the innings, Brad Evans showed an energetic approach, scoring half a century from just 43 balls, including five fours and two maximums.
The bowlers from Bangladesh led an excellent bowling performance, with Shoriful Islam bowling impressively, taking four for 44. Taskin Ahmed and Tanveer Islam both took two wickets each, putting together a well-rounded effort to keep Zimbabwe’s batsmen under control. The hosts’ dominance in the series concluded on a high note, having won two matches out of the initial three. Zimbabwe wanted to maintain an undefeated series, but Bangladesh at the very least would not like to be swept without a single win in the series.
