Aakash Chopra has pointed out a consistent trend in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s recent batting displays, highlighting the Indian opener’s struggle to transform solid beginnings into formidable scores. While Jaiswal has demonstrated his ability to settle in at the crease, Chopra noted that the young batsman has frequently failed to capitalize on these starts to produce the large knocks necessary to elevate his impact in the ongoing Test series.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal had gotten set, and this is happening with Yashasvi consistently. The big knock is not coming. A 175-run knock had come. I think that was against the West Indies in Delhi, but he hasn’t scored many runs around that,” Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.
What Lies Ahead for Jaiswal
The former India batter and current commentator delved deeper into the nature of Jaiswal’s challenges, emphasizing that the core issue is not his initial approach but his inability to maintain and build upon promising starts. According to Chopra, turning these starts into substantial scores is crucial for a player of Jaiswal’s talent and potential. This recurring pattern of starting well but failing to reach the large double digits or beyond has raised concerns among fans and analysts alike.
“He has gotten starts many times, but he has not been able to make his starts big. This has been a constant problem with Yashasvi. I have said problem, but maybe it is not a problem yet. However, you want a big innings. Given the appetite the kid has, a big hundred is required to get the wagon on track again,” Chopra said.
Chopra remains confident in Jaiswal’s capabilities and believes the 24-year-old has the drive needed to reverse his current form. His analysis reflects the high expectations placed on emerging Indian openers to deliver game-changing performances in Test cricket, where converting starts into defining innings often determines match outcomes.
