Lunch Bangladesh 96 for 2 (Shadman 42, Shanto 15, Seales 1-10) vs West Indies
West Indies headed into lunch as the happier side, having watched Bangladesh finish day one of the Dhaka Test on Wednesday on 96 for two.
Shadman Islam remained unbeaten at the break, scoring 42 runs off 82 balls and adding five boundaries, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto got off to a brisk start, scoring 15 runs from 20 balls, including a single boundary.
Bangladesh opted to bat first after winning the toss, a decision expected on a pitch traditionally conducive to scoring runs. However, they lost Tanzid Hasan and Mominul Haque in the morning, both left‑handed batters dismissed after playing loose shots.
Jayden Seales broke the innings early, removing Tanzid Hasan after the batter chased a wide ball. Seales had been bowling around the wicket, and Tanzid, reaching for the wide delivery, edged it to second slip where Justin Greaves took a comfortable catch. The dismissal came in the seventh over.
Shadman Islam looked strong at the other end, finding his range for boundaries soon after Tanzid’s fall. He flicks Seales for his first boundary, and the new batter Mominul Haque follows suit, cracking Roston Chase for a four through point to get the innings underway.

The partnership added 59 runs for the second wicket, with Shadman Islam being the more aggressive partner, finding boundaries against Greaves and Chase during this phase.
Mominul Haque looked solid as well, but in the 22nd over, with Jomel Warrican brought on, he played an uncharacteristic shot. The second ball of the over was tossed up and drifting into the batter; Mominul stepped forward and hit it straight to Shamar Joseph at mid‑off, falling for 28.
Najmul Hossain Shanto began brightly, driving a straight four off debutant left‑arm spinner Joshua Bishop. He has looked confident in his limited time at the crease, while Shadman Islam has appeared increasingly stable. Both aim to bat for as long as possible to shift the match in Bangladesh’s favour.
Bangladesh were forced to omit Mushfiqur Rahim from the match after he suffered a finger injury during training; he has been replaced by Towhid Hridoy. Additionally, Shoriful Islam has been brought into the XI in place of Ebadot Hossain. For West Indies, Joshua Bishop has replaced Kemar Roach in the playing eleven.
