One of the world’s most widely used AI applications is currently experiencing a significant service disruption. According to OpenAI’s official status page, ChatGPT began encountering issues approximately 20 minutes prior to publication.
From the status page:
We’re currently experiencing issues
Chatgpt.com is down – all signups and logins are down as of right now
We have identified that users are experiencing login issues for the impacted services.
We are working on implementing a mitigation.
Outage tracking site Down Detector recorded a sharp spike in user reports around 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET, with individuals citing login failures, inability to load chat histories, and general access difficulties, though some users reported the website itself remained reachable.
This is a developing situation. Early indications suggest the platform is unable to retrieve authentication verification keys, rendering logins and new signups unavailable, while APIs, Codex, and the core ChatGPT engine reportedly remain operational.
Such disruptions are typically resolved swiftly. Further updates will follow as information becomes available.
