Following a lengthy leak cycle, Black Ops and Black Ops 2 have launched on PS4 and PS5. However, the new releases provide no major upgrades or enhancements; they are straightforward ports of the original PS3 titles and do not include the DLC.
Players are wondering whether matchmaking is limited to the same platform or if crossplay between PS5 and PS4 is possible. Here’s how it works.
Neither Black Ops nor Black Ops 2 supports crossplay in their current PS5 and PS4 versions. Each game maintains separate matchmaking pools for each platform, and these pools are further divided based on DLC ownership. Consequently, players are split into two groups: those with DLC and those without.
The lack of crossplay will disappoint some fans, especially since these titles are not remasters. The ports offer no meaningful improvements and even omit several features, such as Studio Mode, Wager Matches, and live player counts.
The news has sparked significant backlash on social media, as the releases are straightforward ports without remastering or enhancements. Both games are available on Xbox through backward compatibility, which explains the decision to simply port the titles.
We do not anticipate any changes, but we will update this article if that situation shifts.
