Dalton Smith will seek his first title defence in the WBC super‑lightweight division when he faces two‑time world champion Alberto Puello tonight.
Smith captured the title in January with a fifth‑round stoppage victory over Subriel Matias at New York’s Barclays Center, extending his unbeaten streak to 19 wins.
A scheduled June encounter with Puello was postponed after Smith’s elbow injury; the bout is now set for tonight at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena.
Puello previously held world championships in two weight classes, winning the WBA title at 140 lb with a victory over Batyr Akhmedov in 2022 and later claiming the WBC super‑lightweight belt after beating Gary Russell and Sandor Martin.
He now aims to reclaim the belt as he travels to England for a showdown with Smith in the Steel City.
